Blindsided By Blessings

Thanksgiving means a lot of different things to a lot of different people.
One commonality that I believe we all share, is that it is a time when our schedules are cleared so that we can be with the ones we love.

For most of us, this means gathering around a table full of food and simply ‘breaking bread’ together on the last Thursday of November, every year.

It’s making this day all about being grateful for what we have.
We spend the day soaking in our loved ones, fully realizing how wonderful they are.

For my family, it also means going to the movies.
Judging by the crowd every year, many other families also adopt this holiday as a time to relax with the family and catch the latest film.

This year’s pick: The Blind Side

I’d heard a little about it, and was assured by everyone that it was well worth the $9 ticket.
They could not have been more right.
The Blind Side is an enduring tale of what it means to have a family and to be surrounded by those who love you and are cheering for you to succeed.
Whether it be through the family you are born into, or through the one you create… may you be filled to the brim with the knowledge that wherever you walk, you go not alone.

Oh, and go see The Blind Side 🙂

Orphan Sunday

leave a comment »

One Sunday—November 8, 2009— People across the globe joined together for one cause. From concerts, to small groups, to carefully crafted sermons, one idea brought people of different cultures, backgrounds, and ideals together.
Together they represented:
One stance.
One heartbeat.
One movement.

The orphan.

The Church is charged to stand for the orphan. To continuously defend the fatherless. To bridge the gap between their current circumstances and hope. No matter the cost, inconvenience, or discomfort it may cause us.

Check out their website to learn more.

I-HEART Revolution

with one comment

What do you have a heart for? Is it traveling? Could it be children? Perhaps the mere idea of life gets you fired up.

Whatever your passion may be… I suspect it’s a force that cannot ever be silenced, rejected, or ignored.
At least, that’s how my passions tend to be.

Can you imagine what it would be like, if we all adopted one similar passion. Saw one common cause and accepted it as ours.

Can you imagine what it would be like if we lived out that common passion. If we all determined to put our full weight behind its importance.

Books on the Back Burner

leave a comment »

I LOVE to read. I sadly just fell into my love of reading when I first entered college. Right around the same time I was given a monstrous list of books that I had to read for class. Reading for enjoyment and reading for class = two completely different things.

Generally– I have several books in the hopper for me to read when time permits. Some on the following list I’m close to finishing. Others I’ve barely started. Regardless, they’re all worth budgeting your time for:

1) Blink by Malcolm Gladwell—The Power of Thinking Without Overthinking

2) Scouting the Divine by Margaret Feinberg— The Search for God in Wine, Wool, and Wild Honey

3) Jesus Wants to Save Christians by Rob Bell— A Manifesto For The Church In Exile

4) Eat Mor Chikin, Inspire More People by Truett Cathy—Doing Business the Chick-Fil-A Way

I realize all of these books are pretty random, but I promise if you give them a chance… they just may surprise you!

Passion Twenty-Ten

leave a comment »

What comes to mind with the word passion?
To some, it means being completely and totally sold out to something.
To others, it means a less than mediocre soap opera that use to come on NBC.
To me these days, passion means a movement.

On January 2-5 a movement known as Passion Twenty-Ten will take place in Atlanta, Georgia.
During these 4 chilly winter days, college students from around the globe will gather at the Philips Arena and Georgia World Congress Center to make a statement.
What kind of a statement, you ask?
The kind that proves that this generation is different.
That young people do desire to live for something bigger than them.
That greater things are yet to come.

Intrigued? Check out Passion Twenty-Ten for complete details.
